Yagnam Program May 7 - 11 (Amma will be participating May 9 - 11)
The India Cultural Center & Temple is performing this Maha Yagam to promote world peace, prevent natural calamities, decrease epidemics and accidental or untimely deaths. Mrityunjaya is a very important name of Lord Siva referring to His swallowing of Halahala to save the universes. Mrityunjaya Mantra is a powerful mantra and becomes more potent when combined with Sri Panchakshari mantra. According to Skanda Purana Chandra (Moon) installed Somanadha Linga (1st Jyotirlinga) and meditated on Lord Siva chanting Mrityunjaya mantra to get rid of Daksha’s curse. The seed letters used in conjunction with the mantra are: Om, Howm, Jhum, Saha. Om is the primordial sound that denotes the beginning of Creation. It removes sin. Howm is the seed letter of Lord Siva. It bestows ashta siddhis (yogic powers), immortality and wealth. Jhum is the seed letter of Agni. It protects from untimely death and removes negative energies. Saha is the seed letter of goddess Saraswati. It confers purity of speech, detachment, removes Raga (passion) and Dvesha (hatred) and protects from accidental death. The participants in this Maha yagam will receive the grace of Lord Siva and attain these benefits.
