The Significance of Guru Purnima
Guru Purnima is the most important day of the year for receiving the blessings of holy people. As the blessings received on this day are equal to the blessings received during the entire rest of the year, seekers have given great respect to this day from time immemorial.
The auspicious day of Guru Purnima falls on a full moon day during the hottest month of the year. Thus, both the sun and the moon are at the peak of their power on this day. As the sun and the moon are connected to the ida and pingala nadis in the subtle body, these important subtle nerve channels become highly energized on Guru Purnima. Therefore, on this day, spiritual seekers are extremely open to receiving divine energy, and for this reason, holy people choose this day to shower everyone with their most auspicious divine blessings.
According to India's venerable rishis, cosmic energy flows through the human body, entering through the crown chakra and leaving through the feet. This is the reason why so much importance is given to the holy lotus feet of God, one's guru, or any holy person. On Guru Purnima, the guru becomes a channel for tremendous cosmic energy, which is available to all through the guru's lotus feet. Thus, Guru Purnima is the most auspicious day for performing pada puja, or the worship of the lotus feet. Cosmic energy flows from the guru's feet in abundance on this special day.
