The continuity of the seasons is represented in the cycle of festivals and celebrations of the Vedic tradition. Food, music, dance, and the honoring of life's passages through ritual are all manifestations of the human spirit reflecting the deep Divine Mystery.

Pictured above, priests and villagers celebrate with sacred music, "pleasing to the Spirit," at the commencement of rituals, festivals, and in honor of the spiritual guides revered by all.

Food is not only necessary for survival. It is part of the sacred awakening of consciousness, plays a significant part of the Ayurvdic tradition of medicine, and has a deep connection to yoga, and Vedic Astrology. Here Amma teaches spiritual lessons through a joyful celebration of sacred culinary tradition.

The ancient Goddess Sakambari (the Green Clothed Goddess of Food), represented here, has been worshipped in India since antiquity. Another name for Her is Annapurna (the Goddess of Complete Fruitfulness). In the photo to the right, Amma counsels a young boy, who has prepared himself spiritually as shown by his demeanor and dress. Spiritual education and nourishment of the young is a central responsibility of the elders and sacred guides of society.

Amma initiates two young girls with the Saraswati Bija Mantra - a sacred ritual that clears obstacles to a good education and gives purpose and dignity by revealing to the student, the intrinsic inseparable nature of knowledge and sanctity.

In addition to education of the young, the development of character includes the instillment of a deep respect for the human body, in which spiritual energy is harnessed for both pysical and mental health, and a sense of connection to the sacred throughout all one's activities.
