Amma's 50th Birthday Wish - Build Homes

This year Amma inaugurated a housing project that will provide solid brick homes for 500 displaced and impoverished families.

These families lived as subsistence farmers for generations, but were forcibly moved by the Government of India into a desolate area when their villages were flooded to build a reservoir.

The villagers were given a small amount of money to rebuild, but these meager funds proved totally insufficient. Hundreds of families now have to live in shelters made of sticks, mud and blue tarps.

Climate extremes in this area bring torrential rains for weeks on end, followed by heat waves that can reach 122 degrees fahrenheit.

Amma’s 50th Jubilee Housing Project will provide a safe, livable single-room house for each family at a cost of $1600 each.
