Amma’s special love and special blessings for all of you in this very auspicious Navaratri festival time. Chandi Sapta Shati comes from the Markandeya Maha Purana. In the Chandi Sapta Shati the second part is Maha Lakshmi Swarupa. That is the form of Maha Lakshmi. The first chapter is Maha Kali. Only the first chapter is Maha Kali. The first chapter is Rig Veda Swarupam, the form of the entire Rig Veda, the essence of the Rig Veda. The second chapter is Yajur Veda, the essence of the Yajur Veda, and the form of Maha Lakshmi. The second, third and fourth chapters are Maha Lakshmi chapters. It is very auspicious whenever people are doing Chandi path [chanting verses from the Chandi Sapta Shati] even on ordinary days; the grace they receive is abundant. Especially at the Navaratri festival time if people are doing Chandi path, it is going to be many, many times more powerful than the ordinary time. So, in Chandi path the second adhaya, second chapter, is the Maha Lakshmi chapter. This is in the form of Yajur Veda and Divine Mother Maha Lakshmi comes in the form of Mahishasura Mardini. Since time immemorial devatas [Gods] and demons [asuras] were fighting for a hundred long years. The asuras became victorious over the devatas. Finally they occupied swargam [heaven] and all the eight directions; and everything came under the control of the asuras. The king for all the asuras was Mahishasura. He was very proud and with tamasic and rajasic natures. He was bothering all the holy rishis and all the spiritual people; he was bothering the eight directions of Indra, Varuna, Agni—all the Gods and Goddesses. They were praying to Divine Mother for so many years in the Himalayas. And finally Divine Mother Maha Lakshmi appeared in front of all the holy rishis and devatas with the eighteen shoulders, with all the weapons in her hands, and with the divine radiance. The entire cosmos was glowing with the radiance of Divine Mother Maha Lakshmi, Mahishasura Mardini. And she gave assurance to the devatas that she would vanquish Mahishasura. All the Gods were so happy to listen to Mother’s divine words. Divine Mother Maha Lakshmi Devi went to the battlefield to fight with Mahishasura. Mahishasura came to the battlefield with so many people and with a large army. And in the army were innumerable elephants, innumerable horses, innumerable chariots and demons while Mother was alone in that battlefield. And the war was going on between Mahishasura and Divine Mother. This is the second chapter in Mahishasura Mardana in Chandi path. Embodiment of Divine Souls, Amma’s most beloved children, Mahishasura means nothing but the “I-ness, me-ness, my-ness”—egoism. Divine Mother is nothing but the truth, Absolute Consciousness, absolute oneness, only oneness. So that’s why Mother is alone in the battlefield. Mahishasura has so many countless people around him supporting the egoism. Mother is always alone. Mother is light. Mother is light of all the lights. Wherever there are dark forces, the dark forces are nothing but the I-ness only. Dark forces are nothing but Mahishasura only. When Mother in the form of Mahishasura Mardini vanquishes the I-ness in our hearts, then you will win the battle and become victorious. This is the essence of the Divine Mother Mahishasura Mardini Maha Lakshmi form. Embodiment of Divine Souls, meditate upon Divine Mother.
Do not allow the egoism in our heart. Kill the egoism with the help of
Divine Mother. Be peaceful, be selfless, be egoless and be one with the
supreme truth, Maha Lakshmi. Om Sri Chakra Vasinyai Namaha
