The eighth day after the new moon in any month is known as Ashtami in Vedic Culture.  Today is the eighth day of the Navaratri Celebrations, and worship on this day is dedicated to the Goddess Durga, as such it is known as Durgashtami.   Amma said that Durgashtami is one billion times more powerful and rich with spiritual energy than a typical ashtami.
