2008 Temple Tour with Amma

You are cordially invited to join Amma and visit world famous temples in Andhra Pradesh, India. Learn about the significance and history of these temples directly from Amma -

a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Tour Schedule:

December 8 - Arrive in Vishakapatnam - also known as Vizag

December 9 - Visit Arasavilli Sun Temple and Srikurmam Temple

Arasavilli Sun Temple - The temple dates back to the 7th century and a Kalinga king is said to have constructed it. The image of worship is a 5 ft tall one of black granite holding lotus buds - flanked by Usha and Chhaya. Padmapani is the name of this Sun God - padma stands for wisdom usha and chhaya stand for eternity.

Srikurmam Temple - This temple is the only Vishnu Temple in Andhra Pradesh  where Lord Vishnu is worshipped in the form of a tortoise (kurma), which is the second avatar of Lord Vishnu's incarnations.

December 10 - Visit Simhachalam Temple, Local Temples and Buddhist Ruins

Simhachalam Temple - This most beautiful 11th century temple of Lord Vishnu is located on the hill top popularly called the Hill of the Lion Lord. The Deity resembles a Shivalingam covered with sandalpaste.

December 11 - Visit Annavaram, Puruhutika Devi and Manikyambha Devi Temple

Annavaram Temple

Annavaram Temple - This temple dedicated to Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swami is built atop the Ratnagiri hills. The meaning of Anna-varam is: "Anna" means whatever you say or you desire and "varam" means boon, hence whatever you desire will be given as boon by the deity. The presiding deity installed along with Shiva represents the oneness of Shiva and Vishnu.

December 12 - Peace Conference at Vizag

December 13 - Travel to Tirupathi

December 14* - Rest Day at Penusila Ashram

December 15 - Chakra Meditation Retreat Begins

Cost of Tour: $485.00 (includes hotel accommodations - double occupancy

                                          from December 8-13, food and transportation to the temples)

                           *December 14 is a rest day at the Ashram and there is no charge.

   

Travel Information:

   Tour participants are required to arrange for their own transportation to and from

    Vishakapatnam (Vizag). We recommend to get the best fares you book your flights early.

    Transportation from Tirupathi to Penusila Ashram will be included in the cost of the tour.

    ~  Approximate flight fare from Chennai to Vizag: $100-125

           (Travel time approximately 1:50 minutes)

         

    ~ Approximate train fare from Chennai to Vizag: $ 30

           (Overnight train travel approximately 16 hrs.)

           

    ~ Approximate flight fare from Vizag to Tirupathi: $100-$125

           The flight for this is available on Deccan Air which leaves

           Vizag at approximately 1:35pm and arrives at Tirupathi at 3:05pm

          

    ~Approximate train fare from Vizag to Nellore: $ 28

           (Overnight train travel approximately 13 hrs.)
