Sri Saraswati Mantra Initiation Will Be Offered
to Students Throughout the Remainder of the 2007 Tour

Jai Karunamayi!

To bless and inspire students, our beloved Amma will be offering initiation, or diksha, into the most sacred and auspicious Sri Saraswati Mantra during the remainder of the 2007 Tour. Initiation will be offered to students between 4 and 24 years of age. To find out when Amma will be offering Sri Saraswati Mantra initiation, please check the Tour schedule for the times and locations of the "Sri Saraswati Diksha Programs."

Just like the traditional Evening Programs, Diksha Programs are still free and open to all; however, they will now include the added blessing of mantra diksha for students. As always, the programs will still feature Amma's divine discourse and bhajans, a meditation for world peace, arati, and darshan.

Important Guidelines for Receiving Initiation

Students who wish to receive Sri Saraswati Mantra diksha are requested to observe the following important guidelines:

  • Students must be present for the entire Sri Saraswati Diksha Program.
  • Students must have fully bathed or showered, including washing the head and hair, prior to coming to the program.
  • Students must be wearing modest white attire.

Due to Amma’s unconditional love and bounteous blessings for all of humanity, there is no fee for the Sri Saraswati Mantra diksha.

The Divine Significance of Sri Saraswati Mantra Initiation

A mantra is a powerful combination of Sanskrit sounds that has the power to mold our nature and elevate our consciousness to higher and higher levels. Diksha is a sacred process through which the divine energy of a mantra is transmitted. During diksha, the guru gives his or her special blessing for an individual to recite a specific mantra.

During the Saraswati Mantra diksha, Amma will inscribe the sacred letters of Sri Saraswati Mantra on the tongues of the students, using a stem from the sacred tulsi plant that has been dipped in honey. Since time immemorial, this method of inscribing Sri Saraswati Mantra has been used to convey the blessings of Sri Saraswati Devi to students.

The tulsi plant, which is the embodiment of purity, signifies that the student's words must become absolutely pure and true, and the sweet honey signifies that the student's words and thoughts must always contain the sweetness of kindness and compassion. Thus, the precious Sri Saraswati Mantra blesses students with sweet and pure words, thoughts and actions.

The Multifaceted Blessings of Sri Saraswati Devi

In her form as Sri Saraswati Devi, Divine Mother blesses her children with education and the development of artistic talents. Sri Saraswati Mantra diksha bestows the abundant blessings of Sri Saraswati Devi, such that students' minds will blossom with the great qualities of concentration, creativity, discrimination and attention.  Through the power of Sri Saraswati Mantra, students' study habits and academic performance will improve.

In addition to these intellectual enhancements, Sri Saraswati Mantra also enables students to have right understanding of how to use knowledge. Students will be inspired to initiate service projects that serve humanity, and they will become spiritually mature with humility, sincerity, gentleness, and truthfulness.

This is a very great blessing for students from our beloved Amma, who is viewed by thousands as the living embodiment of Sri Saraswati's divine energy.
