Navaratri Celebrations at Penusila Kshetram
Oct 2, 2006

An auspicious nine-yard red silk sari is offered to Sri Chandi at the conclusion of the homa

As it is Vijayadasami, the most auspicious day of the year, Amma offers dozens of auspicious items into the sacred fire; the first item is turmeric, which contains Divine Mother’s energy and is both purifying and protective

Another item is kumkum, red vermillion powder which is made from turmeric and is so auspicious for Divine Mother; kumkum gives balance and positivity to the mind when applied to the third eye

One more item is vibhuti, holy ash which invokes Lord Siva’s blessings for inner peace, mental balance, and purity

Amma offers glass bangles in tradititonal colors like emerald green, bright red, and white; bangles energize the subtle nerve channels that run through the wrists and lead to the heart

Amma offers white jasmine flowers; through Sri Saraswati’s blessings, our words become fragrant with purity, truth, kindness, and compassion

Gold-colored flowers are offered; the yellow color is auspicious for Sri Lakshmi Devi

Amma offers limes, which are significant for divine protection

Beautiful and fragrant red roses are offered; our lives must become fragrant with divine dharmic qualities like universal love, kindness, sincerity, and inner beauty

Amma offers pink lotuses; the inner lotus chakras must bloom fully, opening towards the divine sun of the Supreme Truth

Amma offers tambulam into the homa fire - tambulam is made from betel leaves, the betel nut, and other spices; it is said to be a very important offering for Divine Mother

Amma offers the purnahuti, the complete and final offering of the Navaratri Homas – may the whole world receive the abundant blessings of Divine Mother through these sacred and powerful fire ceremonies

As the final offering of ghee is made, Amma touches the special ladle, adding her own energy to the offering - all of the Navaratri Homas were made possible by the generous sponsors, the Vedic priests, and many selfless sevakas who worked tirelessly to prepare all the necessary items for the homas

Amma circumambulates the sacred homa fire – conducting Vedic fire ceremonies on this scale involves a lot of planning, hard work, special knowledge, and endurance on the part of the Vedic priests; we are very fortunate that there are still such special people in the world who are willing to dedicate their lives to dharma by performing such ceremonies

Auspicious Vijayadasami darshan of our beloved Amma, who incarnated on this day for the sake of consoling, inspiring, encouraging, and elevating her beloved children to the highest level of divine consciousness

“What work do I have in this world, except my babies’ work? I came to share my children’s pains and wipe away their tears. Your pain is my pain; your tears are my tears, your joy is my joy. I love you countless gazillions of times, babies” ~Amma
