Los Angeles County Issues a Proclamation Honoring Amma

On April 15th, our beloved Amma was presented with a beautiful proclamation from the County of Los Angeles during the inaugural program of the 2006 US Tour. Within the proclamation, the County Board of Supervisors expressed their appreciation and gratitude for Amma's humanitarian mission. The proclamation was presented to Amma in front of an overflowing crowd on behalf of the LA County Board of Supervisors and was received with a resounding round of applause by the audience. Whereas, Sri Karunamayi Amma, the Divine Mother of Infinite Compassion, Wisdom and Love, will be gracing the County of Los Angeles with her presence during the months of April and July of 2006; her life mission is to freely provide compassion, care, solace and spiritual guidance to everyone in the world; and
Whereas, her devotion, inspiration and vision have resulted in the creation of a free hospital in an impoverished region in South India where routine health care is unattainable for the 500,000 villagers; in 2005, 18,114 patients were given free primary medical care at this facility, and 12,836 patients were examined and treated through the hospital's mobile medical unit; and
Whereas, in 1994, Amma established a school that serves over 200 students, grades K-10; tuition is free, the students are provided books, uniforms, other learning materials and health care; this institution continues to provide liberation from the tragic cycle of child poverty which has beset so many in this region for so long; in 1999 a degree college was instituted to provide education to the poor, regardless of their ability to pay tuition; presently the college has an enrollment of over 1000 students; and
Whereas, during her travels in cities around the world, she shares her love, peace and wisdom with hundreds and thousands of people; this precious time with the compassionate mother has positively transformed the lives of everyone who has been blessed by Sri Karunamayi:
Now, therefore be it resolved, that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles hereby commends and thanks Sri Karunamayi Amma for her outstanding humanitarian contributions, efforts and compassionate love that she shares with those in the United States and the world.
