Jai Karunamayi!

Navaratri is right around the corner, as it will be celebrated from September 23rd to October 2nd this year. Amma has said that whatever sacred activities we may perform, the benefit is many times greater when those activities are performed during Navaratri. Just as the spiritual energy resulting from any sadhana is multiplied thousands of times, the merit and positive karma resulting from any charitable action is multiplied many thousands of times.

Navaratri Is the Most Powerful Time for Performing Homas

Navaratri is the most powerful time of the year for performing or sponsoring sacred ceremonies like homas and abhishekas. This year, Amma will be celebrating Navaratri in the Penusila Ashram. Many special and powerful homas will be performed in Amma’s divine presence for the welfare of humanity and our beloved Mother Earth.

SMVA is offering everyone the opportunity to participate in these sacred Navaratri Homas, so that all can join together in supporting these noble ceremonies. Sponsorship of the Navaratri Homas is an excellent way to receive Divine Mother’s blessings for removing obstacles, for healing diseases and mental problems, and for achieving the highest spiritual liberation. All are invited to support these auspicious ceremonies, which suppport universal peace and welfare at the deepest levels.

Modakas are a favorite of Sri Ganesha - when they are offered into the sacred homa fire, powerful divine vibrations are released into the atmosphere

A Powerful Laksha Modaka Homa Will Be Performed for Sri Ganesha's Blessings

Amma has said that this year is dedicated to Sri Ganesha, who is also another form of Divine Mother. As this year is dedicated to Him, a very wonderful Laksha Modaka Homa is going to be performed on Lalita Panchami (September 27th). One hundred thousand modakas will be offered to Sri Ganesha while the Vedic priests chant the powerful Sri Ganesha Gayatri Mantra. This powerful homa will take many hours with several priests chanting and offering modakas at once.

There is no separate sponsorship for this homa, but those who wish to sponsor this homa should make sure to select September 27 as one of the days they are sponsoring. (Please see the Navaratri Homas page for more details, or access the Sponsorship Form directly.) If you have already signed up to sponsor Navaratri homas, and you want to change one of your dates to September 27, please contact smvaus@karunamayi.org. Those who specify September 27 as one of their sponsored dates will receive blessed prasadam from the Laksha Modaka Homa.

Sponsorship of Annadanam (Charitable Food Distribution) Now Available

During Navaratri, hundreds of devotees travel to the remote location of Amma’s Penusila Ashram. In addition, hundreds of destitute villagers come to the celebrations, hoping to receive Amma’s blessings as well as blessed food. As Amma feels that all are her very own children who have come to her home, it is her wish that food be given freely to all.

Annadanam, or charitable food distribution, is one of the cornerstones of Sanatana Dharma, India’s ancient spiritual tradition. India's ancient sages have taught us that feeding any being, and especially feeding the poor and hungry, is one of the most meritorious activities we can perform. The genuine happiness and heartfelt gratitude of those who receive the food is a most powerful blessing for us. Not only do we benefit, but the previous and future generations of our family also benefit tremendously. Such is the power of soothing the hunger of any of Divine Mother’s beloved children.

As the ashram has taken up the responsibility of feeding all who come to the Navaratri celebrations, all devotees are invited to participate in supporting this noble cause. For those who are interested in participating, a separate Annadanam Sponsorship Form is available.
