Denver Mayor Issues Proclamation Honoring Amma

On June 23rd, a proclamation signed by the mayor of Denver was presented to Amma in recognition of her humanitarian mission. The text is shown below:

Proclamation
WHEREAS, Sri Karunamayi Amma, one of the world’s leading humanitarians, will visit the state of Colorado from June 23rd to June 26th, 2006; and
WHEREAS, Her mission is to see the proliferation of compassion and love throughout the world and provide spiritual guidance to all, regardless of race, creed, and faith; and
WHEREAS, Her genuine devotion to the problems and needs of humanity resulted in the creation of a free out-patient clinic in the remote region of Penusila Kshetram in Andhra Pradesh, an oasis of compassionate medical care amid abject poverty; and
WHEREAS, In 2005, more than 18,000 patients received medical care at the Sri Karunamayi Free Hospital, and over 12,000 patients were examined and treated at her mobile medical unit; and
WHEREAS, She continues her charitable work in providing the impoverished with quality healthcare and in the very near future, the Sri Karunamayi Free Hospital expects to open a thirty-bed primary care unit; and
WHEREAS, Sri Karunamayi Amma, as a revered public figure, travels the world in an effort to spread her wisdom of peace and hope.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOHN W. HICKENLOOPER, MAYOR of the City and County of Denver, Colorado by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby officially proclaim June 23-26, 2006 to be known hereafter as:
"SRI KARUNAMAYI AMMA DAYS"
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the official seal of the City and County of Denver to be affixed this twenty-third day of June, 2006.
