New Year's Eve prayers for the departed souls of Tsunami disaster

Jai Karunamayi!

The New Year 2005 was brought in at Amma Karunamayi's Penusila Ashram with prayers and meditation conducted on New Year's Eve in honor of the thousands who had lost their lives during the recent Tsunami tragedy.

Lighting of hundreds of lamps in remembrance of those whose lives were taken in this disaster marked the evening. Several of the devotees who had gathered for Amma's blessings participated in lighting the 501 lamps placed in the Gayatri Meditation Hall. Amma expressed Her sadness towards this worst natural calamity to have happened in the past several years. She mentioned that we were not going to celebrate but would bring in the New Year with prayers and meditation remembering those who had passed on. Amma explained that each lamp represents several hundred of the departed souls and that our collective prayers and meditation would help them attain spiritual evolution.
