Q: I am receiving email with virus attachments from karunamayi.org. Why is this happening?
A: The karunamayi.org email server is protected from viruses by a firewall, and all email that passes through the procmail server has attachments scanned for the major threat virus types. There are a large number of "spoofed" emails sent by viruses on users PCs that are made to appear as if they originated from karunamayi.org but in fact do not. This is a form of identity theft. Unfortunately, since this email does not actually pass through our servers, there is nothing we can do to prevent it except to advise users to make sure they have the latest anti-virus protection software installed on their PCs. As a precaution, we have set up autoresponders on many of our email addresses that request an email sent by a user be resent to a slightly different address. This prevents the spammers from taking advantage of our published email addresses, and helps to prevent the identity theft "Spoofing." If however, you wish to report suspicious email you believe originated at karunamayi.org, we need to receive the Internet header information from the email. For MS Outlook, please do the following:

1. DO NOT OPEN the email but select (highlight) the email message in your "inbox" (or wherever it is located) and RIGHT-CLICK. Then select the bottom item "Options."
2. You should see a dialog box with a window at the bottom called "Internet Headers" - use your mouse to LEFT-CLICK and drag to select (highlight) all of this text (you may need to scroll down to get all of it - we need the whole block of text). Then press CONTROL-C (press and hold the "CTRL" key while momentarily pressing the "C" key). This will place the block of text in your
clipboard.
3. Open an email "New Mail Message" and place the cursor in the message area (left click the cursor at the top of the message area). Then press CTRL-V (just as you did for CONTROL-C) - this should drop the block of text into your email.
4. Add the subject: "EMAIL ABUSE" and address the email to webdev@karunamayi.org and send the email.

The header will be reviewed by our web team and any problems will be investigated. We will get back to you if we find anything that needs addressing.
